Our Values
The Bertram name traces back to the year 1066 in Normandy, France. For a millennium, the crest that accompanies our name has featured the motto “J’avance,” which translates to “I advance.” That motto, and the motifs of the Bertram crest, epitomize both the essence of education and the core values of The Bertram Group.
Within our shield are these motifs:
- The star signifies the search for truth.
- The thistle denotes the personal growth that comes from taking on new challenges.
- The Tudor Rose symbolizes beauty and unity.
- The crown indicates how pursuit of the other three elements combined leads to success.
Our shield is cradled between laurel branches, a symbol of academic achievement since ancient times when such wreaths were worn by scholars.
The Bertram crest is symbolic of our efforts to help students and families find educational communities where students will gain knowledge, take on challenges that lead to personal growth, draw strength from a harmonious environment, and experience success. We support human rights by helping students and graduates from diverse constituencies pursue enhanced education, quality of life, and employment opportunities.
The crest also illustrates the core values The Bertram Group uses to guide our work. We are committed to working closely with families to plan their children’s futures. We prize integrity in our interactions with both families and educational institutions. We believe in the importance of matching students to appropriate challenges and supports. We are dedicated to helping our candidates succeed.
