New Professional Affiliate Brings Specialty in NYC Schools and Global Families
Although her first career was in advertising, Beth Cashel now has close to 20 years of experience working in schools throughout the United States and Europe. For many years she lived internationally, with her family moving frequently. “I researched schools so often and in so many settings,” Beth explains, “that I really understand what kind of information parents need and how to get it.” Along the way, Beth served in a variety of roles at schools ranging from elite day and boarding institutions stateside to competitive International Baccalaureate programs abroad. She is now Head of Upper School Admissions at Léman Manhattan Preparatory School. She is also The Bertram Group’s newest professional affiliate.
As an educational consultant, Beth helps students navigate secondary school and college admissions. She has a specialty in understanding the milieu of independent day schools in New York City. This market can be especially daunting for families just moving into the city. “I reduce the tension families feel around education planning,” Beth says, “because I know the opportunities in this market, plus the nuances of application processes and timing.”
Beth also has a forte in working with families who view themselves as global citizens. While she lived abroad, her own three children had junior and secondary boarding experiences at Eaglebrook, Tabor Academy, Miss Porter’s, and Groton schools. Like those of Beth’s clients, her children’s university searches also transcended international boundaries. “I understand how educational systems and curricula from other countries match up with U.S. schools,” Beth says. “I also understand the cultural challenges faced by families who are citizens of one country, but live in another or who pursue educational options internationally for their children.”
The Bertram Group values Beth’s devotion to her candidates and her wide range of experience. “It’s unique for a consultant to have exposure to so many different types of schools, including an emphasis on those in New York City,” Cammie Bertram says.
Beth has known of The Bertram Group for years through her longstanding friendship with TBG partner Audrey Noyes Ludemann. “I’m the luckiest person ever to have a profession that I love,” Beth says. “It is very satisfying to watch families’ excitement grow as their students learn more about who they are and then identify the next steps to meet their educational goals.”
