STARS Program a Resource for Identifying College Priorities

Students seeking colleges that place a high priority on environmental awareness and conservation can consult the STARS program created by the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education. This rating program was launched in 2010 to facilitate communication, create incentives, and develop a meaningful set of benchmarks to define effectiveness. Participating colleges and universities report on their activities to earn points toward Bronze, Silver, Gold or Platinum ratings. STARS recognizes institutions that are taking their first steps toward sustainability, as well as those that are already high-achievers. At the STARS website, students can view school ratings and access reports summarizing a school’s progress on a variety of fronts, ranging from course offerings to energy consumption, from research to public engagement.
